Fabulous add on lens very clear and only slight corner vignetting at minimum zoom on my sony lens. Distorts great when close up - just what I wanted for those dramatic shots. Great value for money and supplied rapidly.

I wanted a lens similar in specification, but smaller, than the Canon 18-135mm for my Canon 550D. The Sigma is one half inch shorter, but a little heavier than the Canon. Contrast and colour are similar to the Canon 18-135, but the Sigma is MUCH better built, feeling more solid and stable when extended. Focusing is as fast (pssibly faster) than the Canon, but near silent.

The IS and manual/auto focus switches are well placed, and the zoom lock is in just the right place. Sharpness seems similar to the Canon.

I'm not aware of any lens issues like CA, vignetting, distortion. I shoot in RAW and process in Phhotoshop ACR, which has very effective lens corrections, including one for the Sigma 18-125. I don't yet know if I can set up Canon DPP to do the same.

Mounted on the 550D the Sigma 18-125 feels really well balanced and teh comnination feels really solid - much more so thatn the Canon 18-135. The reduction in length is noticeable.

Is it worth changing? If you have a Canon 18-135mm probably not, unless you are very fussy like me. If you are buying the Canon body only, or upgrading from a kit 18-55, I would suggest looking at the Sigma, it is a very nice lens.

Footnote. Sigma UK tell me that I am not eligible for the extended warranty as the lens was not a UK import. I did not know they could do that as it was supplied within the EU (it came from Germany) and Amazon did not make that clear in their listing.

I've had the previous non-hsm and non-os version of 18-125.

This version has the following changes.
1) quite heavier (still very light though)
2) studier build
3) HSM, no more grrrrr-noise when focusing. Focusing is much faster
4) OS. Maybe the biggest pros. aprox 2-3 stops advantage. I can use it hand held at 125mm @ 1/30-1/50 and still get usuable shoots.
5) bigger front element 62mm vs 67mm. Considering that the front element is quite bigger and the lens is somewhat darket (f3.8vs f3.5) this means that there have been some major redesigns in the optic of the lens.

This lens is very good optically, much better than the previous, and it is usuable throughout all ranges and apertures (previous lens was quite soft at 125mm). Imho it is much better than other all-around lens such us 18-200 or 18-250, because the optical quality compromise is minimal. You might not have 200mm zoom, but it gives you a great quality for the range and the cost.

Considering the cost and the range 5/5 stars.

This is a review of the Canon-fit variant of this lens
I bought this as a replacement for the 18-55mm Canon kit lens, which I had never been satisfied with, and fits nicely alongside my existing lenses (Canon 50mm F1.8 and Tamron 70-300mm F3.5-5.6).

The lens is a very good general purpose range, with the crop factor of 1.6 on a Canon it is a rough equivalent to 28-200mm on a film SLR.
It has Hyper Sonic Motor and Optical Stabilisation, which are major advantages over the more expensive Canon 18-135mm lens.
This lens is excellent value. I am very pleased with it and can recommend it.

PRO's
This is a good lens optically. It produces better results, based on the first week's experiments, than the 18-55mm Canon EF-S kit lens. I took a set of test pictures at wide, middle and zoom focal lengths, and at alternate aperture sizes (i.e. every 2/3 f-stops).
Good, sharp pictures across both the focal lengths and the apertures. Perhaps sharpest at around F.8 to F10 (which is not unusual for a lens).
The optical stabilisation is good and it is quiet. I had seen reviews suggesting the OS was loud, but it is not. At less than 3 feet/1 metre from my ear, a noticeable high pitched hum can be heard, but it is not disturbing. Take a portrait picture of someone and they won't notice it. My second picture with this lens was out of a window as it was getting dark, ISO 100, F8 and 2 seconds (hand held) and sharp results. Very Good.
Hypersonic Motor (HSM) provides quick auto focus. My Tamron 70-300, which is not HSM/USM, whirrss and GRRS as it hunts in lowlight. This Sigma Lens snaps from one end of the range of to the other much quicker - great for grabbing the kids (or grandchildren) before the moment is lost.
For a lens with HSM and OS this is amazing value. Similar lenses are twice the price, and those with a slightly longer reach (e.g. 18-200mm) have a smaller maximum aperture (typically F4-6.3) which means the AF will struggle in low to medium light, where this lens will score.
The lens hood is included (petal shaped).

CON's
Few disadvantages. The reach is not great at 125mm, but it is beyond what you would use for general purpose, and is still very good at around 7x. Everything in photography is a compromise, so compromising on reach rather than quality or amount of light it admits, may not be a con.
Claims to be F 3.8, but cameras cannot register that, so it appears as an F.4 lens.

OTHER POINTS TO NOTE
This lens is only suitable for APS-C DSLR (it is not compatible with full-frame sensors or 35mm film SLR).
It is built for digital only (in the DC range), so if there is any colour fringing or other aberrations at the edges, they will show up (I have not detected any yet).
This lens will not be any use if ever you upgrade your camera to a full sensor system.
The front lens diameter (filter size) is 67mm, which is quite large.
Mine weighs 450g (1lb) rather less than the stated 500g (1lb 1oz).
Maximum aperture: F.3.8 (registers as F.4) at 18mm, F4.5 at 26mm, F5 at 40mm, F5.6 at 70mm and above (all values approx).
Minimum aperture: F22 at 18mm, F25 at 26mm, F29 at 40mm, F32 at 70mm and above (all values approx)
Not rated as Macro, but mine focuses at significantly less than the 0.35m/1.15ft - more like 0.15m/6" at 18mm and 0.05m/2" at 125mm
Sigma do not claim that it works with their teleconverter, however it seemed to work OK with my Jessops canon fit teleconverter (which is only supposed to be for Canon EF - Sigma DG - lenses), which was a bit of a surprise. As it would give a max focal length of 250mm and I have a lens with 300mm without the teleconverter, I do not need this capability.

This is a very compact 2-lens solution and comes with a good quality bag.
Macro facility slightly extends the power of the macro on my Sony F828 but introduces black corners due to the lens blocking the view from the camera's own lens.
Sadly, this also affects the wide-angle lens, although the edges of the photos can be cropped off to remove the black corners.
The wide-angle lens noticeably curves the outer portion of the photo.
Both seem to work fine with the camera's auto-focus.
Because of these issues, I'd recommend the lens for specialist use rather than day-to-day use.

this lens is literally amazing exactly what i was looking for, although it is only £20 it does not hold back on quality, very solid and fits great on my canon 600D, also you can use it as a wide angle lens or a fisheye if you take the macro part off it becomes a great fisheye, would highly recommend for anyone thinking of buying this product

I've have had this lens for about 6 months now and taken a fair few photos with it. I bought it because i wanted a wide angle lens but didn't want to pay £400 for one. Initially i was extremely pleased with it. I think this was because i was very new to SLR cameras and the images look ok to me. If you have it at the wide side of your lens (18mm for me on my d3100) then the edges are cut off but this can be corrected by going to around 22mm. As i learnt more about photography i realised that all pictures taken with this lens are badly distorted and not very sharp. This is hardly surprising considering the price but now every picture i take with this lens has to be corrected in photoshop. Even after they have been corrected they aren't the sharpest but it has allowed me to get some images of things i wouldn't have been able to get otherwise. I have posted 3 images at the top of horseshoe bend in the grand canyon. This is an amazing place and 1 picture shows how i can't fit in the bend and the sky with the standard 18-55mm lens. The next picture shows everything fitting in with this wide angle lens but with the black edges and awful distortion. This final picture is the same as the second but photoshopped for distortion and cropped at the edges. Its not the greatest picture ever but its not too bad and i certainly wouldn't have been able to get it without this lens. Overall i would say it is worth buying this lens as a stop gap to getting a proper wide angle or if you only use wide angle lens every now and again. Don't expect the images to be outstanding though and be prepared to correct these for distortion in photoshop. Shooting raw rather than jpeg is also a good idea.

For someone who uses a wide angle lens once in a blue moon then this little product is ideal. It simply screws on to your normal lens and coverts to a wide angle. That is it! For the price it is well worth having in your kit!

If your after a wide-angle lens for your nikon, you can't go wrong with this for the price. The one thing which I will say is set your lens to 20mm otherwise you'll lose the picture in each corner at 18mm not by much but you can see it.
This lens accessory will compliment your kit lens, if your into landscapes it's perfect for the price. I've even tried a 52mm cir-polarising filter between the wide-angle and kit lens and it works a treat, as you can get a frim grip on the lens to turn the filter. If you just want the wide-angle lens on with out the marco filter you will need to but a ring converter with male threads on both ends as it won't screw into the kit lens as they are both female threads.
I would recomend this to any budding photographer if they are just starting out.

not easy to handle - but using the lens and viewing the results you will quickly learn how to use and love this lens.
according to some gossips in the market nikon will stop producing this lens in the next future: google it and you will find more details.
